![]() ![]() ![]() In response to this, NewTek has begun an integration process by including several basic modeling tools with Layout. A long-standing debate in the LightWave user community has consisted of whether or not to integrate Modeler and Layout into a single program. This differs from most 3D computer graphics packages which normally integrate the renderer and the modeler. Modeler, as the name implies, includes all of the modeling features used to create the 3d models that are used in the animation and rendering component. Layout contains the animation system and the renderer which provides the user with several options including ray tracing options, multithreading, global illumination, and output parameters. When the two programs are running simultaneously, a third process called the Hub can be used to automatically synchronize data. Each program is specifically designed to provide a dedicated workspace for specific tasks. Modeler and Layout: LightWave is composed of two separate programs: Modeler and Layout. Programmers can expand LightWave's capabilities using an included SDK which offers LScript scripting (a proprietary scripting language) and common C language interfaces.ġ. The animation component has features such as reverse and forward kinematics for character animation, particle systems and dynamics. The 3D modeling component supports both polygon modeling and subdivision surfaces. It includes a rendering engine that supports such advanced features as realistic reflection and refraction, radiosity, and caustics. You can unselect a background layer by holding the Shift key as you click on a selected background layer button.NewTek LightWave 3D is a software package used for rendering 3D images, both animated and static. You can add background layers by holding the Shift key as you click. Selecting a background layer will unselect all other background layers. To place a layer in the background, click on the bottom part of a layer button. You can unselect a foreground layer by holding the Shift key as you click on a selected foreground layer button. You can add foreground layers by holding the Shift key as you click. You do this by clicking the top part of a layer button all other layers are unselected, whether they are in the foreground or background. You can apply most Modeling functions across multiple layers simultaneously by placing them in the foreground. You can use the layer buttons in the top-right corner of the main interface to work with layers in banks of ten. Selecting a ghosted item will load it into Modeler and initiate the syncing process. If you load an object in Layout only, its name is ghosted in the Current Object pop-up menu. As such, the object must be saved to your hard drive first. Actually, it sends a pointer to the current object’s file. Send Object to Layout - sends the current object to Layout. You can force this synchronisation by choosing this option. Synchronize Layout - Changes to objects in Modeler are reflected automatically in Layout when you select the Layout interface.Switch to Layout - switches to your Layout window if it is open or opens up Layout if you do not already have it open.If the Hub is running, a small pop-up menu button appears in the top-right corner of the interface, just to the right of the layer buttons. Choosing a ghosted object from the pop-up menu will load it. Ghosted objects are ones that have been loaded into Layout, but not into Modeler. Attempting to close the application triggers a request to save all changed objects. Object names listed with an asterisk (*) have been changed and may need to be saved. The Current Object pop-up button to the left of the layer buttons switches from object to object. ![]() Like files in an image editor, multiple object files can be loaded simultaneously. When loaded into Layout, individual layers of a MultiMesh are treated as individual objects.
